Sunday, July 5, 2009, 3pm GAIA Gallery Grand Opening
The opening reception of the first exhibition of the GAIA Gallery will feature Allen Gray and Jocelyn Stokes. "A Celebration of Thought and Color" features photographs by Gray, a New Zealander, and Stokes, an American. Gray has been working in Gwangju eight years, Stokes, for one, and both will be taking their leave of the area at the end of this exhibit.
The gallery has been initiated by two grants, one from the Global Village Programme, and the other from the Gwangju International Center. Future exhibits will feature at least one non-Korean and one Korean artist showing in tandem. A group of 12 International and Korean artists and professors have worked together to start this gallery.
The intention of the gallery is to bring together diverse cultures through the artists' passion, and the public's attention. Thirty percent (30%) of the proceeds of any sales will go to further the Gwangju International Center's mission.
There will be light refreshments served, and live music.
The Gwangju International Center is on the fifth floor of the Jeon-il Building, directly across Geumnamno from the YMCA downtown, "Sinae." Look for the KEB building, and the Jeon-il Building is the next door toward Democracy Square. See You Soon!
